Lesbian Sorority adopts traditions inspired by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

The Rainbow Greek Network has changed the game. This network, which has been around since 2000, houses LGBT based organizations. Some argue that this network breaks all rules and traditions that have been upheld by fraternities and sororities for years. One organization, known as Omicron Psi Omega, has caught the attention of many. This group of African American lesbians has stirred up a fiery discussion.

The problem did not stem from their desire to create a sense of solidarity and fellowship amongst one another. What flared up the debates was what they attempt to exhibit, in the image of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Not only have these women created a mission statement, with an emphasis on their anti-hazing policies; but, they’ve also gone as far as displaying over-sexualized behavior.

With their tongues out and aggressive behavior, it seems that these women are working to imitate a group of proud Black men, while delivering a debatable message.

There are other organizations like Omicron Psi Omega. Gay, African American males have participated in emulating the behavior of sororities. There have been instances where the men would perform in step shows, while moving and posing in the same manner of AKAs and Deltas.

People have voiced their concerns of whether or not they’ve gone too far.
