Rahkal Shelton has a successful career in media that took her from WGN to CNN, but she will be the first person to tell you the road wasn’t as clearly painted for her as people would imagine.

Born into a world filled with drugs, promiscuity and insecurities her story had been written for her based off what society described people born in poverty as “hopeless.”  Rather than settle, Shelton decided she was going to rewrite her narrative and use her story to inspire others that no matter what your circumstances you face you can overcome them.

“Dreams Bigger than Texas: A Story of Purpose, Perseverance and Growth Into Womanhood,” is the “coming of age story” of a woman who was told by her mother “You bet not bring no babies in this house” and to make sure you “Get yo GED” to becoming a powerhouse in media. She is wears many hats, but the most important hat she takes full responsibility in wearing is mentoring the youth of Chicago and uses her story to inspire.
