This weekend two of Chicago’s top influencers linked up to go head to head in the 6th Annual Chicago Against Violence Charity Basketball. VH1’s Black Ink Crew Chicago Ryan Henry took on the Hip-hop street staple Bump J to assist the COLORS OF AWARENESS organization to help raise awareness and funds for local charities that support breast cancer, domestic and the gun violence that plagues the city of Chicago.
The event took place on the city’s southside at a sports complex on 47th. The guest list included community activists such as Englewood Barbie, William Calloway, D.Nash and Mayoral candidate Ja’mal Green. Black business owners, and mother who children were victims of gun violence and even Rob White also were in the stands.
White gave a heartfelt speech about Black men taking ownership in the community to protect women and children.
Last year the game ended in a shooting, this year it was filled with love and respect. Not to shed light on the negativity, but to highlight the growth of the people, how the mindset changed. Events like this bring the community together and illustrate no matter the obstacles you must continue to achieve your purpose.
