The Kicks 4 The City foundation hosted its 3rd annual Agora sneakers ball June 16, 2018. I must say it had to be one of the best events that I've attended as a member of the media. I've attended the first two, and they were both amazing; its just this year brought a different feel. Founder Justin Johnson and his all-star cast really put together an amazing experience for the guests.

The sneakers ball was hosted by Chicago PD star LaRoyce Hawkins, with sponsorships by huge brands such as  Athletes Foot, Complex, and BMW. The event was held at the Geraghty on Chicago's west side. It also included a great performance by BJ The Chicago The Kid. The guest list included former NBA Player Bobby Simmons, WGCI's Tone Kapone & Kendra G, MMG signee Rockie Fresh and many more!

As founder Justin Johnson stated "I can't remember giving back, looking like this" combining urban culture's idea of being "cool" with community service has made the Agora sneakers ball one of the most anticipated events in the city.

"In the past if you picture events like a black tie
What the last thing you expect to see, black guys?"- Kanye West; Murder To Excellence

This event is much needed, gives those in urban communities a positive outlook on upscale gala-type events. The guest list included many of the Chicago's successful urban influencers. It displayed Black Excellence (The Head of BMW was a Black Man!!), and the gym shoes with the attire made the event more welcoming. Outside of providing over 70,000 pairs sneakers to those in need in America and Africa. The organization is providing an outlet for many who may grow up believing that upscale engagements are not for "us" with an urban upbringing. The Agora Sneaker Ball Is The MET GALA for Urban Chicago.
